The farmers

The Daws have been farmers for generations, arriving in the Ridwares in 1972 via Cornwall and North Warwickshire. James and his father Fred raised cattle and sheep, and James grew cereals and potatoes, and in the early 1990s, was one of the first farmers to keep pigs outdoors. Now a new generation is keeping the tradition alive.
Eleanor, an accomplished falconer in her spare time, is busy raising free range Bronze turkeys and cockerels for Christmas and developing the Bellamour Herd of Pedigree Red Poll Cattle.
Her younger sister Hannah takes a keen interest in the sheep flock which shares its grazing with the cattle on the borders of Cannock Chase at Upper Longdon. Here they are free to roam up hill and down dale, nibbling at the lush grasses and tasty herbs which are abundant in this area of outstanding natural beauty.
Tracey and Steven McKendrick have been involved in farming for the last 25 years. They now run a rural development business. The whole family gets involved, as well as rearing the pigs Jack, Molly and Max all muck in and help at the shop.
Steven and James have been friends for many years and are both passionate about food and the countryside and this passion has led to The Butcher the Baker the Ice Cream Maker.
